ELON, N.C. – Deanna Bailey, Anna Milian, Paige Kensrue, Jennifer Tucci and Hayley Wahl all claimed success in singles action as Elon foiled Appalachian State for a 6-1 Southern Conference women’s tennis win Tuesday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

Via the victory, the Phoenix (10-6 overall, 2-2 SoCon) improved to 8-1 at the JPTC on the season while defeating the Mountaineers (4-8 overall, 0-5 SoCon) for the fourth time in five years. Elon has now captured 10 of its last 14 matches.

The Phoenix swept the doubles bouts as the duos of Bailey and Milian (over Monica Tomas and Heather Prior 8-2 at No. 1), Kensrue and Whitney Butcher (over Anja Gugger and Caroline Mauch 8-2 at No. 2) and Tucci and Wahl (over Amanda Cash and Lindsay King 8-3 at No. 3) all emerged victorious.

In singles play, Bailey ousted Gugger 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, Milian dispatched Tomas 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2, Kensrue knocked off Prior 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3, Tucci topped Cash 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 and Wahl decisioned King 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6. ASU registered a win at No. 5 when Elizabeth Holland beat Butcher 6-1, 6-3.

Elon will visit SoCon foe Wofford at 11 a.m. Saturday. Meanwhile, Appalachian State visits SoCon rival Western Carolina at 1 p.m. Saturday.
