ELON, N.C. -- The 2008 Elon Phoenix men's soccer season gets started on Friday night with a 7 p.m. contest at longtime Triad rival High Point. This will be the 44th meeting all-time between the Phoenix and Panthers. Last year, Elon earned a 4-1 victory over High Point from Rudd Field.
The Phoenix is coming off of an 8-7-4 season in which the squad recorded a program-record four consecutive shutouts. At 4-3-0 in the Southern Conference, Elon finished in a tie for third in the league in 2007. That team featured four All-SoCon performers, three of which return for the 2008 campaign –
Justin Wyatt,
Steven Kinney and
Clint Irwin.
In the 2008 preseason SoCon poll, Elon was slated to finish fourth while Wyatt, Kinney and Irwin all earned all-league honors.
