BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Three different players scored to lead the Samford Bulldogs to a 3-0 Southern Conference women's soccer victory over the visiting Elon Phoenix on Friday night. The match was the first-ever SoCon game for the Bulldogs who joined the league this season. Elon saw its three-match winning streak snapped and now sits at 4-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in league play. Samford is now 2-7-0, 1-0-0.
Samford's Sarah Wilkinson scored her second marker of the season less than five minutes before halftime. Wilkinson's tally from seven yards out was set up by Amber Cress' centering pass. It was the first goal that Elon had allowed in 312:43.
After the break, the Bulldogs added a second score when Wilkinson and Kat Sweatt set Cress up for her first goal of the season just 3:10 into the second period.
Mary Shelton Bryant capped the scoring with her first goal of the year at 78:52. Caroline Baxter's corner kick was touched on by Brittany Gordon to Bryant for the score.

Sydney Little stopped one shot.
Lizz Johnson came on and made one save in the final 11:08 for the Phoenix.
Cayley Winters and Alyssa Whitehead combined to make three saves in the shutout for Samford.
Samford outshot Elon 11-3 overall and 6-3 on goal and also held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Phoenix remains on the road and will look to pick up its first SoCon win of the season with a 2 p.m. match at Chattanooga on Sunday afternoon.
