SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon sophomore Josh Bonney was named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played through November 16. The guard helped the Phoenix to a 1-1 record, including its first victory in a season opener since the 2005 season. Bonney averaged 19.5 points and 5.5 assists over the two games. Elon takes on Coastal Carolina in the second round of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off Tournament on Tuesday evening at Cameron Indoor Stadium on the campus of Duke University. The game is set to tip at 8:30 p.m.

Bonney came off the bench at Lipscomb and netted a career-high 24 points in just 26 minutes of action as Elon knocked off the Bisons on Saturday night. Bonney connected on 9-of-16 from the field and dished out seven assists in the road win. The native of Houston, Texas, led the team in scoring for the second consecutive game with his 15 points against Charlotte on Monday night. Against the Niners, Bonney also had five rebounds, four assists and no turnovers. He is shooting 44 percent from the floor through the first two games.
