Final Results
GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The Elon women's golf squad fired a final-round score of 311 on Tuesday to finish in 12th place at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina University. The Phoenix posted a three-round score of 914 (305-298-311). Maryland took home the team title after besting the 16-team field with a tournament score of 876 (292-294-290).
Maryland's Christine Shimel shot one-under to take home the individual title as she posted a final score of 212 (71-72-69).
Tara McFadden was the top finisher for the Phoenix, placing in a tie for 29th with a score of 226 (81-70-75). Four strokes back in a tie for 37th was
Martyna Mierzwa who totaled a 230 (74-77-79) over her three rounds of play. Mierzwa finished a tournament-best two-under on the par three holes.
In a tie for 44th out of the 93-golfer field was Elon's
Lauren Lebak who shot a 231 (77-75-79). Lebak led the Phoenix golfers with eight birdies over her three rounds of play.
Shannon Prunty's 232 (75-79-78) placed her 53rd while
Virginia Mayer's score of 234 (79-76-79) placed her in a tie for 62nd.
Competing as an individual,
Lindsey Thomka carded a tournament total of 239 (83-77-79) to tie for 73rd.
Behind Maryland in the top five were East Carolina (291-301-289--881), Augusta State (292-300-295--887), Penn (293-296-301--890) and UNC Wilmington (296-298-299--893).
The Phoenix finished ahead of Georgetown (317-302-310--929), Richmond (308-311-311--930), Radford (309-316-320--945) and Charleston Southern (325-315-323--963).
Elon will play in one more tournament this fall when the Phoenix travels to Kiawah Island, S.C. to participate in the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic beginning on Oct. 25.
