ELON, N.C. – After two exhibition victories, the Elon men’s basketball team is set to tip off the 2010-11 regular season when it travels to Columbia, S.C. for a matchup with SEC foe South Carolina on Friday, November 12. Tip is set for 9:04 p.m. from Colonial Life Arena. Elon will be looking for a win in its season-opener for the second consecutive season.

• Elon opens its season on the road for the fifth consecutive year.
• Elon is 59-38 (Record unknown during first four years of play) in season openers during its history and 4-7 in the first game of the season during its Division I era.
• The Phoenix defeated Lipscomb in the 2009-10 season-opener - its first win in the first game of the season since the 2005-06 campaign.
• This is Elon’s first meeting with a school from the SEC since it suffered a 76-65 loss to Georgia on Nov. 20, 2007.
• Phoenix coach Matt Matheny begins his second season as a head coach after being hired as the 17th head coach in Elon history in March 2009.
• Elon welcomes four scholarship freshmen and one transfer to the roster this year.
• The 2010-11 roster features two seniors in Chris Long and Scott Grable.
