Phoenix and Tigers to Battle in Alumni Gym on Monday Night

ELON, N.C.
– The Elon men’s basketball team will return to Alumni Gym to host the Hampden-Sydney Tigers on Monday, November 22 at 7 p.m. The Phoenix (1-2) is coming off a loss at the hands of Atlantic Coast Conference foe Wake Forest, while the Tigers enter Monday night’s contest with a 2-0 record on the year. Tickets are available by calling the Elon Ticket Office at 336.278.6750.

Free Throws:
• Three Phoenix players are averaging in double figures this year — rookie Jack Isenbarger (19.0), senior Chris Long (16.3) and junior Terrance Birdette (10.7).
• Elon is averaging 16.3 assists per game — tops in the Southern Conference. The Phoenix has 49 assists on 87 buckets.
• The Phoenix also leads the SoCon with 10.7 three-pointers per game.
Chris Long is connecting on an impressive 68.7 percent of his field goals — in the last two contests, Long is 13-of-18 (.722). He is also one of the top free throw shooters at 83.3 percent (15-of-18).
• This is Elon’s last home game in the month of November — the Phoenix will close the month at ACC foe Maryland on Friday and then open SoCon play and the month of December at Furman on Dec. 1.

Last Time Out:
• Elon’s challenging non-conference slate continued on Saturday as the Phoenix dropped an 89-70 decision to Wake Forest at the Greensboro Coliseum.
• The Phoenix started fast and furious, pulling out to a 14-2 advantage. Elon hit nine of its first 14 field goals and held a 20-12 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the first half.
• Elon went cold from the field, not managing a bucket for over 11 minutes as Wake seized on the opportunity with a 25-3 run. The Demon Deacons never relinquished the lead again.
Chris Long netted 17 points, Roger Dugas added 14 and Drew Spradlin posted double figures for the first time of the year with 11.
• Elon struggled on the boards as Wake won the battle on the glass, 48-26.

The Tigers:
• Hampden-Sydney, a Division III school in Virginia, got off to a strong start with two victories this past weekend to win the Roundball Club Tip-Off Tournament. The Tigers defeated Methodist, 75-65, and Virginia Wise, 90-77.
• Sophomore Harrison George, the tournament MVP, averaged 24 pts and 10 rebs on 20-of-30 field goals.
