Elon Men's Basketball to Welcome 2011 at Columbia

– The Elon men’s basketball team will be in action for the first time in 2011 when it begins the new year with a battle at Columbia University on Sunday, January 2 at 2 p.m. at Levien Gymnasium. The Phoenix is looking for back-to-back road victories after earning a win at Navy prior to the holiday break.

FREE THROWS
• Elon is coming off a 10-day break and is playing its first game since a 73-58 victory at Navy on Dec. 22.
• The Phoenix will be looking for its second road win of the season after getting a win at Navy before the break.  
• Elon is 0-4 against current Ivy League schools. The Phoenix’s last contest against an Ivy was a 69-65 loss to Yale on 11/24/09.
• Rookie Jack Isenbarger has scored 20+ on five occasions this season. He ranks seventh in the Southern Conference with 15.0 ppg. He is the top scoring freshman in the league.
• Through games played as of Dec. 19, Elon’s 10.1 three-pointers per game rank third in the country.
• Senior Chris Long scored 13 points at Navy and now has 934 career points.
Drew Spradlin is tied for ninth place all-time at Elon with 109 career triples.  
Chris Long is third on Elon’s all-time career assists list with 393 helpers. He leads the team and is fourth in the SoCon with 4.4 apg.
• Elon’s four scholarship freshmen are all averaging double-figure minutes.
• Elon is second in the league in assists (15.3) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1).

LAST TIME OUT
• Elon had four players in double figures to earn a 73-58 victory at Navy on Dec. 22.
• After Navy got its first lead of the game, 53-51, with 5:25 remaining, Elon went on a 22-5 run to close the game and earn its first road win of the year.
Chris Long had a season-high eight assists to go along with 13 points.
• Rookie Sebastian Koch tied his career best with 11 points and five rebounds.
Drew Spradlin had 14 points and eight rebounds.
• Elon dominated the glass (46-27) and owned a 22-1 advantage in second chance points.
• The Phoenix scored 27 points off 23 Midshipemen turnovers.   

A LOOK AT THE LIONS
• Columbia is coming off a 74-71 victory at Maine on Thursday night. The Lions led by 17 points midway through the second-half and held off the Black Bears’ late comeback.
• The Lions are on a four-game winning streak, dating back to a 73-68 loss at Bucknell on December 1.
• Columbia is a perfect 5-0 at home this season. The Lions last loss at Levien Gymnasium was Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 when they suffered a 67-52 defeat to Princeton.
