ELON, N.C. -- The Elon Phoenix baseball squad heads to the Lonestar State of Texas where it will participate in this weekend's Rice Invitational in Houston. The Phoenix (4-0) will take on the sixth-ranked Rice Owls from Reckling Park on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Eastern before squaring off with the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders (2-0) on Saturday and the Nebraska Cornhuskers (1-3) on Sunday.
The Series
Elon has never faced any of the three teams in this tournament. In fact, Elon has never taken on a team from either Texas or Nebraska.

Matt Hinson ripped a go-ahead home run on the first pith he saw in Elon's 8-3 decision over High Point on Tuesday. The bomb was just the 14th hit of the senior's career, but the seventh homer.
• Freshmen
Alex Swim and
Niko Fraser have gotten off to hot starts. In four games, Swim ha hit .571 with a double and five RBI. His eight hits lead the team. Fraser has hit .375 with three runs scored, a triple, one RBI and a stolen base while starting in left field.
• Junior shortstop
Neal Pritchard recorded his 100th career hit in the win at High Point. His 100th hit came in his final at bat of the game and was a two-run homer.
• Entering the weekend, Elon has scored a total of 10 runs in the eighth inning. The Phoenix has allowed a total of nine runs on the year.
