Elon Starts Six-Game Road Swing at No. 5 Clemson

ELON, N.C. -- A six-game road trip for the Elon baseball team begins on Tuesday with a visit to fifth-ranked Clemson.  The Phoenix and Tigers will tussle twice this week with 6:30 p.m. starts slated for both Tuesday and Wednesday evening at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
 
The Series
Elon is 5-10 all-time against Clemson and has lost four straight to the Tigers.  In Clemson last season, the Phoenix came up just short in two close decisions, dropping a doubleheader by scores of 5-3 and 8-7.  Elon's last victory over Clemson was a 13-12 win on April 24, 2007.  Since 2002, Elon has defeated a ranked Clemson team three times, including an 8-6 win over the then top-rated Tigers in 2002.

• This year, Elon pitchers have thrown 2,995 pitches.  Of those, 1,839 have been strikes.  That amounts to 61.4 percent of the pitches being thrown for strikes.  Of those pitchers who have thrown at least 50 pitches, Jimmy Reyes has the highest percentage of strikes thrown at 67.0 percent (288 strikes in 430 pitches).
 
• Elon has scored 152 runs this season.  The Phoenix has scored 74 of its runs in the 7-9th innings.  That amounts to 48.7 percent of its runs being scored in the late innings. 
 
• During Elon's attempted ninth-inning comeback against The Citadel on Sunday, red-shirt freshman Grant McCoury belted his first career home run.  It was a three-run shot. 
 
• The Phoenix has dropped five straight games and had a four-game skid earlier this season.  It is the first time since 2004 that Elon has had two losing streaks of four or more games in one season.
