ELON, N.C. -- The Elon women's soccer team hosted the High Point Panthers in its second contest of the 2010 spring season. The Phoenix and Panthers played to a 0-0 draw at Rudd Field on Wednesday evening. Both of Elon's spring games have resulted in draws as the Phoenix played the Duke Blue Devils to a scoreless draw in early March.
Despite holding the majority of the possession in the first half, Elon failed to put much pressure on the High Point goalkeeper. The Phoenix did earn four corner kicks in the opening period.
The game opened up a bit more in the second half and both teams created more opportunities on goal. In the 75th minute, an offside call negated a High Point score. On the attacking side for Elon, Liz Palmer's blast from about 35 yards out just skimmed the crossbar.
Brittany Hallberg had another Phoenix chance, drilling a shot from just inside the penalty box but right at the High Point goalie. Elon newcomer
Jaclyn Wood put in a solid performance at right midfield in the second half.
Elon will play its final road contests of the spring when the Phoenix faces off against Charlotte (2 p.m.) and Liberty (5 p.m.) on Saturday, April 10 at the BB&T Classic in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Phoenix will also host UNC Greensboro and NC State before concluding spring action.
