Phoenix and Eagles Face Off in Saturday Double-Header

ELON, N.C.
– Fresh off a Thursday night victory over Davidson, the Elon men’s basketball team is back in action on Saturday evening when it will host the Georgia Southern Eagles in Southern Conference action from Alumni Gym at 7 p.m. The Phoenix women’s squad takes on College of Charleston prior to the men’s game with tip-off set for 2 p.m.

FREE THROWS
• The Phoenix is 6-2 in Alumni Gym this year.
• With a win over Davidson on Thursday night, Elon has already matched its win total from a year ago.
Chris Long is averaging 9.0 apg over the last three games and has taken over second place on Elon’s career assist list with 442.
Drew Spradlin surpassed 800 career points with his 28-point performance against Davidson. He is averaging 18.9 ppg against SoCon opponents this year — tied for fourth-best in the league. He is shooting nearly 48 percent from the field in conference games.
• Freshman Lucas Troutman has had at least one block in eight of the last nine games and leads the teams with 23 on the year.
• With two steals against Davidson, Chris Long moved into a tie for ninth place at Elon with 131 career takeaways.
• Elon has held opponents under 35 percent shooting from long range on 11 occasions this year — Elon’s last eight opponents are 44-of-140 (.314) from downtown.
Drew Spradlin needs just four three-pointers to move into a tie for seventh all-time in school history. Spradlin has knocked down 124 career triples.

LAST TIME OUT
• Elon defeated the Davidson Wildcats, 77-70, behind a 28-point performance by Drew Spradlin and a near double-double from Chris Long (16 pts, 9 asts).
• Having defeated the ‘Cats in the SoCon Tournament last season, Elon won back-to-back games against Davidson for the first time since 1999 and 2000.
• Elon overcame a deficit of as many as 11 points in the first half to take the victory.
• The Phoenix got 11 points from rookie Lucas Troutman. Troutman also pulled down five rebounds, blocked two shots and added four steals.

ELON VS. GEORGIA SOUTHERN
• Georgia Southern comes to Elon on a seven game skid, its last victory an overtime win against Georgia State on Dec. 22. The Eagles suffered an 87-75 loss at UNC Greensboro on Thursday night.
• In last year’s meeting, Elon relinquished an 11-point halftime lead as Eagle guard Antonio Hanson netted a career-high 39 points to lead Georgia Southern to the 98-88 win in Statesboro.
• The Phoenix won the last contest against the Eagles in Alumni Gym by a score of 75-61 on Feb. 26, 2009.
