Men’s Hoops Returns to Alumni Gym to Take on Catamounts

ELON, N.C.
– The Elon men’s basketball team will look to end a two-game losing skid when it returns to Alumni Gym to host the Western Carolina Catamounts on Wednesday, February 2 at 7 p.m. The Phoenix has won its last three games in Alumni Gym and is aiming to improve on a 7-2 mark in its home facility. Elon (10-12, 4-7) lost a tight 70-63 decision to Western (9-13, 5-5) on the road in mid-January.

FREE THROWS
• Elon is 7-2 in Alumni Gym this year, winning its last three at home.
• Freshman Lucas Troutman has had at least one block in 11 of the last 12 games and leads the team with 28 on the year. He needs just six more to break into the school’s single-season top 10 list.
• Elon is looking for its fifth SoCon win of the year, which would match its total from 2009-10.
• Of its seven SoCon losses, Elon has lost only one of those by double figures. The Phoenix has lost those games by an average of 7.6 ppg.
Chris Long knocked down nine three-pointers in the past two games and now has 156 career triples. He is just two away from tying TJ Douglas for fourth place all-time at Elon.
Chris Long is averaging 7.8 apg over the last six games. His assist-to-turnover ratio in those games is nearly 4:1.
Drew Spradlin is quickly climbing toward the 1,000-point plateau, now at 879 career points. He is averaging 18.5 ppg against SoCon opponents this year — fifth-best in the league.
Drew Spradlin is currently in sixth place all-time at Elon with 131 career three-pointers.

LAST TIME OUT
• Elon dropped its fourth straight road game after digging a 15-point hole in the first half against Chattanooga. Although Elon managed to tie the game in the second half, the Mocs pulled away with the 85-76 victory.
• The Phoenix shot 29 percent in the opening 20 minutes of play, hitting only 4-of-17 from beyond the arc.
• Both teams shot above 50 percent in the final stanza and combined for 23 three-pointers.
Drew Spradlin led the team with 21 points and eight rebounds. Seventeen of his points came in the second half.

ELON VS. WESTERN CAROLINA
• Elon will be looking to split the season series with the Catamounts after dropping the January meeting by a score of 70-63 in Cullowhee.
Drew Spradlin was the lone Elon player in double figures with 19 points. The Phoenix turned the ball over 18 times in the contest, with the Catamounts scoring 17 points off the miscues.
• Under head coach Matt Matheny, Elon is 1-2 against Western Carolina, defeating WCU 81-76 in Alumni Gym last season.
• Western has lost three of its last four games, its lone win coming against Furman last Thursday.
