Women’s Soccer Lacing Up for Pediatric Cancer Friday Night

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s soccer team is doing its part to raise awareness about pediatric cancer tomorrow night, Oct. 13, in its match against Furman, as the Phoenix will don fluorescent yellow shoelaces as part of the Go4theGoal Foundation’s “Lace-Up 4 Pediatric Cancer” awareness campaign.

“We are thankful for the chance to help raise awareness for such a good cause,” said Elon head women’s soccer coach Chris Neal. “G4G is doing a wonderful job of supporting pediatric cancer treatment and research.”

Go4theGoal Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation formed in 2006 by Dr. Richard and Beth Stefanacci when their oldest son Richard (13) was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Go4theGoal Foundation funds are used to provide supportive services to children with cancer and their families with the goal to provide a sense of "normalcy" in their lives while they "Go4theGoal" of being healthy again soon.

Athletes from colleges, universities, high schools and middle schools, as well as town and recreation club teams across the country, are wearing neon shoelaces in an effort to create pediatric cancer awareness and engage in fundraising efforts to benefit Go4theGoal's programs to support pediatric cancer patients, their families, hospitals and researchers.

The Phoenix and Paladins are set for a 7 p.m. start at Rudd Field tomorrow night.
