Men's Hoops to Host Rutgers-Camden on Friday Night

ELON, N.C. -- The Elon men's basketball team will aim for back-to-back victories in front of its home crowd when the Phoenix hosts Rutgers-Camden on Friday evening at 8 p.m. The game is part of a double-header with the women's team with the first game tipping at 5:30 p.m. The Phoenix men are coming off a 58-53 win over South Carolina this past Tuesday night.

• Elon is led by third-year head coach Matt Matheny. The long-time Davidson assistant took over the program in March 2009 after helping the Wildcats to nine postseason appearances, including five trips to the NCAA Tournament.
• With a win over South Carolina in its home opener, Elon is 11-2 in home openers during its Division I era; the Phoenix has won seven consecutive home openers with its last loss coming to Weber State in 2004-05.  
• The 2011-12 Phoenix is a youthful team with only one senior on the roster. Four sophomores and a freshman have each earned starting nod this year.
• Lucas Troutman moved into Elon’s all-time career blocks list with two swats against South Carolina. The sophomore has 49 blocks in just over a year of action.
• Senior Drew Spradlin will be looking to eclipse the 1,000 career point plateau tonight, needing just three more points for 1,000 career tallies. He is third on the team this season averaging 10.0 ppg.

Last Time Out
• Elon posted its first-ever win against a current member of the SEC with a 58-53 victory against South Carolina in Alumni Gym on Tuesday night.
• Elon trailed for less than 10 seconds in the entire contest, holding off every Gamecock run.
• The game was won on the defensive end of the floor as the Phoenix held South Carolina to 20-of-64 (31.3) from the field. The Gamecocks did not make a three-pointer until the second half and finished 3-of-27 from downtown.
• Elon got nine points and six rebounds from junior Brett Ervin off the bench, including three long range bombs that helped the Phoenix to an 11-point halftime advantage.
• Rookie Austin Hamilton has scored in double figures in his first two collegiate contests, playing 32 minutes and scoring 12 points against the Gamecocks. Sophomore Lucas Troutman was an efficient 5-of-8 from the field and 6-of-6 from the stripe for a team-best 16 points.

Elon vs. Rutgers-Camden
• The Phoenix and Scarlet Raptors have never met.
• Rutgers-Camden competes in NCAA Division III athletics and is located in Camden, N.J.
• The Scarlet Raptors finished with a record of 6-17 under first year head coach Jason Curbison.
• Rutgers-Camden was picked to finish fifth in the five-team NJAC South Division in a preseason poll of the league’s 10 coaches.
• The Scarlet Raptors return nine lettermen from 2010-11.
