Elon Baseball Signs Four for 2013


ELON, N.C. -- The signing of four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent were announced by Elon baseball coach Mike Kennedy on Tuesday.  Joining the Phoenix baseball program for the 2013 season will be utility player Danny Crowe (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./Dobbs Ferry HS), pitcher/infielder Danny Lynch (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus HS), pitcher Tyler Manez (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge HS) and outfielder Chris Schaedel (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier HS).

“Coach (Greg) Starbuck and Coach (Robbie) Huffstetler continue to a great job in evaluating talent," said Kennedy.  "Though this is a smaller class then normal, we believe that each of these student athletes fit well into our system and will make a positive impact on the future of Elon baseball.  We had some specific needs that were addressed and I am excited about each of these players and the potential they bring with them to Elon University baseball.”

The 6-0, 186-pound Crowe hit .509 with 30 RBI during his junior season for coach Matt Arone's Dobbs Ferry squad.  Crowe collected both team MVP and all-section honors last year.  Danny is the son of Dan and Leslie Crowe.

The 6-0, 195-pound Lynch throws right-handed and helped lead coach Joe Weber's Christopher Columbus program to a GMAC runner-up finish as well as a Sarasota Classic crown.  As a junior, Lynch hit .360 with five homers and earned honorable mention all-county accolades.  Lynch was a member of the 2011 CABA World Series All-Tournament Team.  He is a member of the National Honor Society and has been a Dean's List member.  Danny is the son of former University of Miami pitcher Christopher and Debra Lynch.

The 6-2, 175-pound Manez is a lefty who went 6-1 with a 2.07 ERA in 2011.  He also struck out 81 in 44 innings no his way to earning all-county honors last season.  A second-team All-Long Island pick, Manez helped coach Tom Pisani's Plainedge program to a perfect 19-0 mark to claim the 2011 league title.  He also earned the football squad's "Best Receiver" award and helped that team to playoff appearances in both 2010 and 2011.  Manez has been a member of the High Honor Roll as well as the Math Honor Society.  Tyler is the son of former East Stroudsburg University football player Robert and Susan Manez.  His brother Kyle is a football player at Gettysburg College.

The 6-0, 170-pound Schaedel has been a four-year starter at Barron Collier where he helped coach Dan Maur's team to a district Class 4A crown.  Schaedel hit .373 as a junior as the team posted a 20-9 record.  As a sophomore, Schaedel batted .366 and collected honorable mention all-county honors as the team went 22-7.  He has also played for the All-American Prospects summer team.  Chris is the son of former University of New Orleans tennis player Jim and Lee Schaedel.

Elon is a NCAA Division I member of the Southern Conference and has appeared in five NCAA Division I Regionals – 2002, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010.  The Phoenix also has claimed four SoCon regular-season titles – 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2011.
