Round Two
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The Elon women's golf team fired a 309 on the second day of the Edwin Watts-Kiawah Island Classic to drop to a tie for ninth out of 33 teams with a two-round score of 610. The Phoenix is just two strokes back of sixth place entering Tuesday's final round of play.
Martyna Mierzwa shot a one-over 73 on Monday and, coupled with her first-round mark of 76, sits in a tie for 12th among the 172 individual competitors. Mierzwa carded two birdies during Monday's round.
Just two shots back of Mierzwa in a tie for 24th is
Virginia Mayer with a two-round score of 151 (73-78).
Tara McFadden (77-78) and
Shannon Prunty (75-80) are in a tie for 52nd with an overall score of 155. Rounding out Elon's field was Lauren Leback who sits in a tie for 132nd with a total of 166 (79-87).
Campbell's Sarah Bejgrowicz holds the individual lead entering Tuesday's final round with a score of 140 (69-71).
Miami (296-297--593) holds a seven-stroke edge over Campbell (299-301--600) for the team lead. Florida International and SoCon rival Western Carolina are tied for third with a mark of 601 while host and SoCon foe College of Charleston sits fifth with a score of 604.
Just ahead of the Phoenix in a tie for seventh are Central Arkansas and Nebraska who each boast a mark of 609. Elon is tied for ninth with Oral Roberts at 610.
Elon will begin play of Tuesday's final round at 9:00 a.m. at the Cougar Point course.
