Phoenix and Mountaineers Face Off in Alumni Gym on Saturday

ELON, N.C.
– The Elon men’s basketball team will try to halt a three-game losing skid when it faces off against the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Saturday, February 5 at 7 p.m. in Alumni Gym. The Phoenix has won seven games in front of its home crowd this season and will be aiming to split the season series with the Mountaineers.

FREE THROWS
• Elon is 7-3 in Alumni Gym this year, but lost the last game at home to Western Carolina on Wednesday night.
• After swatting four shots against Western on Wednesday, freshman Lucas Troutman has had at least one block in 12 of the last 13 games and leads the team with 32 on the year. He needs just two more to break into the school’s single-season top 10 list.
• Elon is looking for its fifth SoCon win of the year, which would match its total from 2009-10.
Chris Long has knocked down 157 career triples. He is just one away from tying TJ Douglas for fourth place all-time at Elon.
Chris Long has not had more than two turnovers in each of the last five games. He is averaging 7.0 apg in those contests with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 5:1.
Drew Spradlin is quickly climbing toward the 1,000-point plateau, now at 889 career points. He is averaging 17.8 ppg against SoCon opponents this year — sixth-best in the league.
Drew Spradlin is currently in sixth place all-time at Elon with 132 career three-pointers.

LAST TIME OUT
• The Phoenix had its worth shooting performance of the season against Western Carolina on Feb. 2, connecting on only 29.8 percent of its shots. The Catamounts shot a blistering 48.3 percent from the field.
• Elon ranks fourth in the nation with 9.5 three-pointers per game, but managed only 4-of-25 against WCU.
Lucas Troutman had a career night with 23 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
Drew Spradlin extended his double-figure scoring streak to 12 straight with 10 points.
• WCU dominated points in the paint, 36-18.

ELON VS. APPALACHIAN STATE
• Elon will be looking to split the season series with the Mountaineers after dropping the mid-January meeting, 79-71, in Boone.
•ASU held a three-point advantage midway through the second half of the earlier meeting this year, but used a 17-6 run that spanned nearly seven minutes to pull away from the Phoenix.
• Appalachian State has won five straight against Elon, including the last two in Alumni Gym. The Mountaineers edged out a 58-54 victory in Feb. 2009 at Elon.
• The Mountaineers ended a four-game losing streak with an 80-78 overtime victory against UNC Greensboro on Wednesday.
