SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon senior left-handed pitcher Lauren Taylor has been selected as the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced today, May 9. It marks the fourth time this season Taylor has picked up the weekly honor.

Taylor, a native of Lillington, N.C., posted a 1-0 record on the week in two appearances in the circle and finished with a 0.00 ERA.  In the Phoenix sweep of UNCG, Taylor pitched 12.0 innings, struck out five batters and held hitters to a .128 average at the plate.  In the series finale, Taylor pitched a complete-game shutout to give Elon the win and secure the No. 5 seed in the 2011 SoCon Tournament.

Taylor previously captured pitcher of the week honors on March 7 and 14 and February 21 this season.

The Elon softball team makes the trek to Statesboro, Ga. this week for the SoCon tournament, May 11-14. The fifth-seeded Phoenix opens up the tournament against fourth-seeded College of Charleston on Wednesday, May 11, at 12 p.m. at Eagle Field.
