ELON, N.C. -- Just because the summer has arrived does not mean that Elon baseball players are resting at home. Twelve Phoenix players have joined various summer teams across the nation and are continuing to hone their craft.
Here is a look at where those players are competing and how they are performing so far this summer.
CAPE COD LEAGUE
Two Elon players are playing in the prestigious Cape Cod League this summer. Left-handed pitcher
Dylan Clark is a member of the Orleans Firebirds and has appeared in six games this year. Clark has allowed just three hits and struck out 10 in 11.0 innings and has yet to allow a run. He has posted a 1-0 record. Righty
David Whitehead is with the Harwich Mariners where he is 2-0 in two starts. Whitehead has thrown 11.2 innings, allowing just one earned run (0.77 ERA). He has fanned four.
CAROLINA-VIRGINIA COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
The Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League features two Phoenix players. Right-handed pitcher
Nate Young and infielder
Casey Jones are both members of the Kernersville Bulldogs.
Jones has appeared in 12 games, hitting .350 (7-for-20) with six RBI and two stolen bases.
Young has made two appearances, throwing 5.0 innings and allowing one run. He has struck out seven and walked just one hitter. He has one save.
SOUTHERN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
Elon right-hander
Grant Fisher is donning the uniform of the Ballantyne Smokies of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League this summer. Fisher has appeared in seven games, tossing 7.2 innings. He has a 2.35 ERA and has struck out nine while earning a team-best four saves..
MYRTLE BEACH COLLEGIATE SUMMER LEAGUE
Three Elon players are participating in the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Summer League this season. Outfielder
Blaine Bower is with the Hammerheads, outfielder
Nick Bruno is a member of the Sand Gnats and infielder
Sam Paone is playing with the Sea Dragons.
Stats and standings for this league are not currently available.
PACIFIC WEST BASEBALL LEAGUE
Playing in the Pacific West Baseball League are both pitcher/first baseman
Grant McCoury and outfielder
Quinn Bower. Both are members of Top Speed.
McCoury has 15 at bats on the summer and is hitting .200 with two doubles and five RBI in nine games. He has also logged 11.2 innings on the mound. In those 10 appearances, McCoury has a 4.63 ERA and hsas struck out 13. He has two saves.
Bower has appeared in 14 contests and is batting .296 with nine runs scored, one double, three RBI and a team-high 11 stolen bases.
NEW ENGLAND COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
Left-handed pitcher
Ryan Pennell is the lone Elon player in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Pennell is playing for the Newport Gulls and has made three appearances. Pennell has tossed 3.2 innings and fanned seven. He is 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA.
HAMPTONS COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
Catcher
Michael Elefante is playing for the Westhampton Aviators in the Hamptons League this summer. Elefante has appeared in 17 of the Aviators' games and is hitting .190 with four runs, two doubles, a homer and a team-high 16 RBI.
