ELON, N.C. -- The Elon football team will be looking for a repeat result of last week's win over Furman when it returns to the Upstate of South Carolina for a date with 12th-ranked Wofford this weekend at 1:30 p.m.
The game will air live on WPCM 95.1 FM and 920 AM beginning with the pregame show at 12:30 p.m. Fans can also listen live on elonphoenix.com.
Fans can also watch the game live via Wofford's video portal for a $5.95 fee this week.
A Numbers Game
• 1 - Career 100-yard receiving game for Rasaun Rorie who caught three passes for 112 yards and a TD in the win at Furman
• 3 - Consecutive games with over 100 rushing yards for the Phoenix, a first for the program since Sept. 2011
• 17 - Passes attempted by Elon vs. Furman, the fewest for the maroon and gold in a game since throwing just 15 times at Western Carolina on Oct. 29, 2005
• 92 - Seasons, including 2013, that Elon has played intercollegiate football

Series Notes
Elon and Wofford have met 36 times on the gridiron prior to this weekend's tilt. The maroon and gold is 11-25 in those games. Wofford has emerged victorious in each of the last three meetings. The two squad first met on Oct. 15, 1921 with Wofford claiming a 20-7 win in Spartanburg. Elon's first win in the series came on Sept. 11, 1971, a 7-6 decision also in Spartanburg.
Ground Game Emerging
Against Appalachian State, Elon ran for 193 yards – the most against a Division I opponent for the program since Nov. 7, 2009 when the squad amassed 237 yard on the ground in a 42-17 victory at Western Carolina. In the game against ASU, Elon lost just four yards on the ground all night, and the first lost yard on a rush did not come until less than five minutes remained in the third quarter.
The following week, the Phoenix rushed for 231 yards against #11 Coastal Carolina. The consecutive rushing totals were the best back-to-back running marks by the maroon and gold since Sept. 13 and 20, 2008 when Elon put up 246 yards vs. Presbyterian and 201 yards at Georgia Southern.
Elon then ran for 134 yards in a win at Furman, giving the program its first three-game streak with at least 100 rushing yards since Sept. 10-24, 2011.
Elon last rushed for 100+ yards in four consecutive games from Oct. 30-Nov. 20, 2010.
Defensive Pressure and INTs
Entering its game with Furman, the Elon defense had tallied just two sacks and two interceptions on the year. The maroon and gold's defense then picked off two Paladin passes, returning one for a 33-yard touchdown, and recorded three sacks.
Pin Them Deep
Against Furman, the Phoenix did a good job of forcing the Paladins to use a long field. Furman's average starting field position was its own 19-yard line while Elon began its possessions at its own 33, on average. Much of that was thanks to the leg of punter David Petroni who averaged 45.6 yards on five punts. He put three punts inside the 20 and had a long punt of 59 yards.
SoCon POW Goes to Wrightenberry
Senior defensive back Chandler Wrightenberry garnered the first weekly SoCon honor of his career as he was named the league's defensive player of the week for games played Saturday, Oct. 5.Â
In Elon's 28-25 victory at Furman, Wrightenberry tallied seven solo tackles and returned a first-quarter interception 33 yards for a touchdown that gave the Phoenix a 14-7 edge that it would never relinquish. The interception was the sixth of his career and the first non-offensive touchdown for the maroon and gold since Joshua Jones returned and INT 40 yards at Furman on Nov. 12, 2011.
Williams Named to Good Works Team
Junior defensive back Miles Williams has been named to the 22-player roster for the 2013 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. William is involved in numerous community service projects in the Elon and Burlington communities. The junior has mentored and tutored at-risk youth through the Positive Attitudes Youth Center as well as a tutoring program at Elon First Baptist Church. He was named the 2012 Counselor of the Summer while serving with the Alamance County Community YMCA. Williams has also been involved with Special Olympics, Elonthon and Phoenix Field Day. In January, Williams will travel to Africa as a part of the Friends of Ghana program. While in Ghana, he will assist the city of Sokode with construction of a middle school and raising scholarship funds. The group will also aid in a Heifer International livestock improvement project and provide school supplies for a number of Ghanaian children.
Recognizing the "good works" of a select group of college football players from across the country, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is one of the most prestigious off-the-field honors in college sports. The award pays tribute to the positive impact these young athletes have had on their communities and the lives of others.
Oh Captain, My Captain
Selected as team captains for 2013 were senior defensive linemen Jordan Jones and Tony Thompson and senior offensive lineman Clay Johnson. The Phoenix also selects at least one other captain for each game week.
