Elon-Coastal Carolina Series History
As former conference mates in the Big South, Elon has faced off with Coastal Carolina 32 times prior to this weekend’s game.  The maroon and gold has won 10 of the previous meetings.  The first-ever game between the two was a 9-3 Coastal victory in Conway, S.C., on April 17, 1998.  Elon would end up sweeping a doubleheader from the Chanticleers (10-2 and 3-0) to win the series the following day.  The last time the two met was on April 7, 2009 with #19 Coastal Carolina claiming an 11-10 decision in Elon.

Preseason Prognostications
Winners of three of the last five SoCon regular-season crowns, Elon was selected to finish near the top of the league standings again in 2013.  In voting by the league’s coaches, Elon was chosen as the SoCon’s preseason favorite by the league’s coaches, while the media tabbed the Phoenix to finish second.

Preseason Honors
Multiple Elon players have received preseason recognition.  Senior catcher Alex Swim was a third-team preseason All-American as named by the NCBWA and was a second-team pick to the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America Team.  Senior right-handed reliever Nate Young was one of 75 players named to the watch list for the Stopper of the Year Award.  Swim, senior left-handed starting pitcher Dylan Clark and junior first baseman Ryan Kinsella were all first-team preseason All-SoCon picks.  Finally, Young was a second-team preseason All-SoCon selection.

Nail-biters
Under skipper Mike Kennedy, Elon has played 207 one-run games.  The maroon and gold has gone 107-100 (.517) in those contests.
