ELON, N.C. -- After four straight games away from Latham Park, the Elon baseball team will return home for its next eight games beginning with a 4 p.m. tilt with Liberty on Tuesday.

Ryan Kinsella homered in three straight games over the weekend at the Caravelle Resort Tournament. They were the first three homers of the season for the Phoenix.

Elon-Liberty Series History
As former conference mates in the Big South, Elon has faced off with Liberty 24 times prior to this mid-week tilt. Elon is 9-15 in those contests. The first-ever meeting between the two came in 1976 with Liberty (then Liberty Baptist) claiming an 8-1 victory. The maroon and gold has won the last three games. The most recent match-up came in 2010 when the two sides met twice. Elon picked up a 5-3 victory on the road in Lynchburg, Va., on April 13 before earning a 3-1 decision at home on April 27.
Solid Weekend
Elon faced a tough field at the 2013 Caravelle Resort Tournament hosted by Coastal Carolina over the second weekend of the season. The Phoenix came away from the tournament with a 2-1 record, matching #8 Kentucky for the best record in the field over the weekend. Elon opened up play with a 6-1 loss against the Wildcats before rebounding to take a pair of one-run games on Sunday. The maroon and gold handed Kansas State a 4-3 loss before knocking off Coastal Carolina 8-7 in the finale.
Tight Ones
A year ago, Elon played in 28 games decided by either one or two runs. The Phoenix went 17-11 in those games and won six games in its final at bat. The maroon and gold has played in four one or two-run contest in 2013. The Phoenix is 3-1 in those games, including 2-1 in one-run contests.
Winning Late
Elon has won one game in its final at bat of the 2013 campaign, rallying for two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning in a 4-3 victory over Kansas State.

Closing it Out
Since 2007 Elon has been very good at closing out games. The Phoenix has gone a combined 191-15 (.927) when leading after seven innings and 197-13 (.938) when holding a lead following the eighth inning.
