SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon University women’s tennis junior
Jordan Johnston has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday, March 5.
Johnston went 2-0 in singles play and was 2-0 in doubles competition last week. Elon improved to 10-1 on the season with wins over Radford (7-0), Charlotte (5-2) and Longwood (6-1).
Johnston began the week with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Radford’s Gemma Valls. Earlier in the match, Johnston and teammate Frida Jansaker defeated Meg Napolitano and Taylor Newman, 8-1, at the top doubles position.
The Snellville, Ga., native came away with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Charlotte’s Alexandra Zinn at No. 1 singles.
Johnston closed out the week by earning an 8-2 win in doubles play with Jansaker against Longwood’s Marta Pinyol and Allison Shulman.
A senior, Johnston is now 7-5 in singles play and is 10-1 in doubles competition with Jansaker.
Elon, winner of its last 10 matches, returns to action Saturday, when the Phoenix host Samford.
