Elon-Wake Forest Series History
In a series that began in 1909, Elon has met Wake Forest on the baseball diamond 88 times prior to this week’s home-and-home set. The maroon and gold is 35-52 in those meetings with one unknown result. The two sides have met at least once a year since 2002. Last year, each team picked up a win on its home field – Wake Forest won 7-5 in Winston-Salem on May 1, while Elon claimed a 3-2 win at Latham Park on May 2. In each of the past two seasons, the series has split. Prior to that, Elon had won seven straight in the series. Wake Forest won the first meeting in 1909 by a 7-1 score.
Closing in on 2,000
The Elon baseball program played its first season in 1900. Now in its 111th season of intercollegiate competition, the Elon program is closing in on its 2,000th all-time victory. The maroon and gold’s all-time record currently sits at 1,994-1,402-8 (.587). The first-ever win for Elon was a 16-0 win over Burlington in 1904.
Tough Competition
Elon always plays a tough schedule and 2013 is no different. Through its first 39 games, the Phoenix played eight games against teams ranked in the top 25 at the time of the game. Of those, seven have been against teams rated in the top eight. No other SoCon team has played more than four games against top-25 opponents. The maroon and gold’s schedule is currently ranked as the 42nd-toughest in the nation. College of Charleston’s strength of schedule is second-best in the SoCon at 44.
Among the Nation’s Best
In the most recent release issued by the NCAA, four Elon players rank among the Division I active leaders in various categories. Senior
Alex Swim currently is Division I’s active leader with 886 at bats, is third with 267 hits, fifth with 218 games played, sixth with 17 sacrifice flies, 18th with 150 RBI and 36th with 141 runs scored. Senior

Another Webb Gem
Senior righty
Kyle Webb had an impressive outing in a 9-1 victory over Georgia Southern. Webb tossed the second complete game of his career, needing just 111 pitches to finish off the Eagles. Webb did not walk a batter and allowed just one hit, an infield single, after the fifth inning. He also posted a personal-best 11 strikeouts in the win, running his total to a team-high 68 K’s on the season.
