ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, Feb. 8, following a 7-0 sweep of North Carolina Central.
 
Five of Elon's six singles wins were in straight sets following a sweep of all three doubles matches. Elon improves to 1-4 with the victory.
 
Elon started off strong, sweeping all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 advantage on the Eagles. 
Jordan Johnston and 
Taylor Casey claimed an 8-4 win at No. 1, while 
Frida Jansaker and 
Maria Camara Ruiz topped Mia Ramic and Aissa Muamba at No. 2 with an 8-2 decision. Viviana Stavreva and Bryn Khoury sealed it at No. 3 with an 8-2 win.
 
Ruiz got Elon started on the right foot at No. 6 singles, topping Tamara Jeremic, 6-0, 6-0. Jansaker claimed a 6-2, 6-0, decision at No. 2 singles versus Wood, while Casey was victorious at No. 4 against Ramic, 6-3, 6-0.
 
At No. 1 singles, Johnston claimed a 6-3, 6-2, decision against Muamba while Khoury topped Ekaterina Nekrasova, 6-1, 6-1.
 
Rookie 
Tolley Rice picked up an impressive win for the maroon and gold at No. 5, winning in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 10-8) against Lynsey Cover.
 
Elon returns to action on Feb. 12 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center versus Campbell.
