Box Score PDF Box ScoreGREENSBORO, N.C. -- After jumping out to an early lead, the Elon Phoenix baseball team saw the UNCG Spartans claim a 12-3 victory in game two of a three-game Southern Conference series.
The Phoenix (25-18, 11-9 SoCon) put up a two-spot in the top of the first on three straight singles from
Sebastian Gomez,
Quinn Bower and
Casey Jones and a ground out by
Ryan Cooper.
UNCG (19-19, 6-8) came back in the bottom half and scored three times on four hits. With a runner on first, Sean Guite doubled down the left field line to score the first Spartan run. He then came home on Hunter King's one-out single to tie the game. The Spartans took a 3-2 lead when Kings came home on a Jordan McDonald hit.
After UNCG scored three more in the third to make it a 6-2 contest, Elon got one back in the fifth as Cooper tripled home
Chris Hall.
The Spartans put the game out of reach with two in the seventh and four in the eighth.
Matt Harris (3-1) took the loss after giving up six runs (four earned) on nine hits in two-plus innings.
UNCG's Max Povse (5-3) picked up the win as he went six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits. He struck out 10 Phoenix hitters.
The two will wrap up the three-game series on Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest at UNCG Baseball Stadium.
