ELON, N.C. – The 75th-ranked Elon University women's tennis team finished up its first home match of the spring season with a 6-1 win over South Carolina State University on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

Elon improves to 1-1 on the season with the win.

"I am very happy with how the team performed as a whole at home," said Elon head coach Elizabeth Anderson. "It was good to see the team play well, and working through some nerves in this match will help us out for our following matches this weekend."

On court two, Elon's Taylor Casey and Olivia Lucas defeated Claudia Roca and Marketa Marcanikova (6-3), before Kamilla Beisenova and Erica Braschi came out with a win over Andjela Vasic and Oleksandra Filippova (6-0) at court three.

Elon travels to Gainesville, Fla., to play against the third-ranked Florida Gators in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend Jan. 24-25. They will face the Gators on Saturday, Jan. 24, and finish off the weekend facing against either Maryland or Georgia State on Jan. 25.

"This tournament is surrounded by a good environment, and is full of great competition," added Anderson. "It will be good for us to start up against Florida and finish off against one of the other two great teams."
