Elon Falls at No. 24 Michigan, 88-68

ANN ARBOR, Mich.
– The Elon University men's basketball team fell to No. 24-ranked Michigan Wolverines 88-68 on Monday night, Nov. 16, at the Crisler Center in the Battle 4 Atlantis Mainland Game.
 
Dainan Swoope led the way for the Phoenix (1-1) with a season-high 15 points, a rebound and an assist of the bench. Dmitri Thompson (12), Brian Dawkins (11), and Tanner Samson (10) also finished in double figures. Luke Eddy finished with four assists and Christian Hairston had six rebounds, both team-highs.
 
Derrick Walton Jr. led the way for the Wolverines (2-0) with 24 points, six rebounds and seven assists.
 
Highlights
It was tight to start as Michigan and Elon were tied 7-7 at the 16:30 mark after Tyler Seibring's layup knotted up the score. Michigan went on a 5-0 run to take a 12-7 lead with 15:12 on the clock, but a 5-0 spark by the Phoenix knotted the score again 12-12 after a Christian Hariston tip-in with 12:32 in the half.
 
The Wolverines fired back to take a 28-21 lead and forced Elon to take a timeout at the 5:03 on the clock. A 6-0 run capped off by a steal and a fast break layup by Santa Ana with 3:21 left made the score 31-30 in favor of Michigan.
 
The No. 24-ranked Wolverines closed out the half on a 12-3 run to take a 43-33 double-digit lead into the half.
 
In the second half, Michigan opened play with a 10-0 run in the first two and a half minutes to extend its lead 53-33. Tanner Samson drained his first three pointer of the game to end the run at the 16:31 mark to make it 53-36.
 
The hosts pushed out to a 23 point lead at the 10:58 mark 67-44, but Elon cut into Michigan's lead 67-52 with an 8-0, which included a jumper and three pointer from Thompson.
 
The Wolverines kept the score a distance from the Phoenix and closed out the game for the 88-68 victory.
 
Notes
- Brian Dawkins' 11 points, four made field goals, and 22 minutes of action are new career highs.
- Dainan Swoope set a season-high 15 points has now recorded double-figures in scoring in his first two career games as a Phoenix.
- Elon starts the season 1-1 for the 11th time in the last 12 seasons.
