Agate

ELON, N.C. –
The Elon University men's tennis team won its second straight home match following a 6-1 decision over the Longwood Lancers on Thursday, March 12, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The Phoenix improves to 5-8 on the year with the victory, while Longwood drops to 0-7.

Elon took an early 1-0 advantage after doubles play, topping the Lancers on all three courts. Jordan Kaufman and Chris Humphreys registered a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles to give the Phoenix early momentum. Robert Lindgren, the reigning CAA Player of the Week, and Juan Madrid clinched the doubles point at No. 3 with a 6-3 victory over Bharani Sankar and Rosen Ilchev. For good measure, Stefan Fortmann and Brian Kowalski earned a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles with the point already clinched.

Kowalski put the Phoenix up, 2-0, at No. 4 singles after claiming a 6-1, 6-1, win over Longwood's Steed Johnson.

Rookie Josh Luck was impressive at No. 5 singles, as the first-year player topped Longwood's Bharani Sankar in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, to give the Phoenix a 3-0 lead.

Madrid clinched the match victory for the maroon and gold at No. 6 singles, topping Longwood's Rosen Ilchev, 6-0, 6-2, in straight sets.

Kaufman extended Elon's lead to 5-0 after rallying from behind for a three-set win (3-6, 6-3, 10-4) against Longwood's Florian Uffer at No. 2 singles.

Fortmann pushed the advantage to 6-0 after claiming a three-set decision (6-2, 3-6, 10-4) over Longwood's Daniel Elston at No. 1.
