AgateELON, N.C. – In action for the first time in nearly two weeks, the Elon University women's tennis team stretched its winning streak to four matches with a 5-2 victory against UNC-Greensboro today, March 4, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
"UNCG is a strong, well-coached team and they fought really hard against us," Elon head coach
Elizabeth Anderson said. "It was a battle but I think it was something that pushed us a lot and it's going to make us a lot better. I think we grew a lot today."

The Phoenix had its matches against Gardner-Webb and William & Mary cancelled due to winter weather but showed no signs of rust after the long layoff, starting strong and finishing off the Spartans.

Elon triumphed on all three doubles courts to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Kirsten Ward and
Barbora Lazarova, playing together for the first time in the No. 1 doubles position, earned an 8-2 win while
Olivia Lucas and
Maria Camara Ruiz clinched the point with an 8-6 win on court No. 2.

The duo of
Taylor Casey and
Erica Braschi completed the sweep by topping UNCG's Masey DeMoss and Jamie Grinberg, in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-5). The win marked the third straight for Casey and Braschi.

Lazarova gave Elon a 2-0 lead after she dispatched the Spartans' Corinne Blythe, 6-4, 6-2. The Phoenix's advantage stretched to 3-0 with Braschi's 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Amy Ellis at No. 4 singles.

The Phoenix earned the decisive fourth point after
Kamilla Beisenova completed an impressive three-set victory at No. 6 singles. Beisenova dropped the first set, 5-7, but bounced back to take the final two sets and the match.

Camara Ruiz added another point for Elon with a victory against Grinberg. Camara Ruiz trailed, 5-3, in the first set but stormed back to win 7-5. She lost the second set in a tiebreaker and went down 3-0 in the third before winning the next six games to win the set and the match.

The Phoenix improves to 5-4 with the win and is back in action on March 6 against Liberty. The match is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
