GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team played another tight match today, April 8, against UNC Greensboro at the UNCG Tennis Courts, falling just short, 4-3.

Four of the team's last five matches have been decided by a margin of 4-3. The Phoenix is now 2-2 in those matches.

"We fought hard against a talented UNCG team," said Elon head coach
Michael Leonard. "I thought our guys were competitive on every court today, but UNCG was just a few points better."

The Phoenix was faced with a 1-0 deficit after dropping the doubles point.
Stefan Fortmann and
Brian Kowalski had their four-match winning streak snapped at No. 1 doubles and
Jordan Kaufman and
Robert Lindgren lost, 8-7 (7-2), on court No. 2.

Kaufman and Kowalski got singles play started with a pair of 6-4, 6-2 wins to put Elon in front, 2-1. Kaufman's win, his 11
th singles victory of the season, moved him into a tie for first on the team with Fortmann.

The Spartans followed with wins on court Nos. 6 and 1 to move into the lead before
Josh Luck knotted the match at 3-3 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against UNCG's Gaston Murray at No. 5 singles.

The deciding match went to a third-set tiebreaker, which the Spartans' Daniel Mack won to defeat
Robert Lindgren, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), and seal the match for UNCG (11-8).

Elon falls to 8-12 with the loss and closes out the regular season at East Carolina on April 11. The match is set for 1 p.m.
