ELON, N.C. – The Elon women's soccer team heads to Gardner-Webb on Friday, Sept. 18 for a 7 p.m. match, before returning to Rudd Field on Sunday, Sept. 20 to take on Charlotte at 6 p.m. on Hispanic Heritage Night.

Series HistoryElon and Gardner-Webb will be meeting for the 13th time on Friday. The maroon and gold have not lost to the Runnin' Bulldogs, leading the series 12-0. Elon defeated Gardner-Webb 2-0 last season on Sept. 19, 2014.

Sunday will be the third all-time meeting between the 49ers and Phoenix and first match between the two sides since 2000. Charlotte holds a 2-0 edge in the series with victories in the 1999 and 2000 seasons. In the history of the matchups, Charlotte has outscored Elon 7-0 in the two matches.

About the PhoenixThe Phoenix (5-1-1) is off to one of its best starts in program history. Elon started the season 4-1 overall and won five of their first six matches for the first time since 2010. The Phoenix recorded four consecutive shutout victories for the first time in the program's Division I era from Aug. 30 to Sept. 11. The total shutout minutes Elon had going was 421 since Aug. 27 before UNCG scored on Sunday night.

In his eighth season at the helm and second in the Colonial Athletic Association, head coach
Chris Neal and Elon has 22 returning players and seven starters from a team that experienced their first season in the CAA last season.

Scouting Gardner-WebbThe Runnin' Bulldogs (3-3-2) are currently on a three-match unbeaten streak since Sept. 6, and a two-match winning streak after defeating Chattanooga and VMI last weekend. Gardner-Webb is also undefeated at home with a 3-0-2 record in that slate. Brandi Arey and Shelby Hooe lead the way with three goals and one assist for seven total points each.

Scouting CharlotteThe 49ers (4-4) are looking to bounce back as they are currently on a three-match losing streak. It started with a 4-1 loss to No. 16 South Carolina on Sept. 7, followed by a 2-1 loss against USF (Sept. 11) and a 3-2 overtime loss to East Carolina (Sept. 13) last weekend. Martha Thomas has been on a tear with eight goals in eight matches this year. She already has 18 points adding two assists this season.

Up NextElon opens CAA Conference play with its first full home weekend of the season. In the CAA opener, the Phoenix host Northeastern on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m., followed by Hofstra on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m.
