KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Elon University women's soccer team was rewarded as one of the top academic programs in the nation as the Phoenix earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2014-15 academic year.
Elon was one of 554 women's soccer programs to receive the honor and one of 208 schools that had both its men's and women's teams recognized. This is also the 14th time that the Elon women's program has claimed this honor, and the eighth consecutive season of earning the honor (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014).
"It's very rewarding to coach a team that gets it done in the classroom and on the field," said Elon head coach
Chris Neal. "This group of student-athletes view the classroom, video room, and practice field as places to grow as a young adult and to learn."
The Team Academic Award is presented to programs, which boast a minimum of a team GPA of 3.0 the previous academic year. The women's squad had a 3.36 GPA this past academic year.
