Elon Falls 7-0 at No. 16 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – Erica Braschi and Taylor Casey forced third sets in singles play and led in doubles action as the Elon University women's tennis team was swept, 7-0, by 16th-ranked Duke today, Jan. 20, at the Sheffield Tennis Center.

THE HIGHLIGHTS
Braschi, who earned Elon's lone point in its season opener at No. 4 North Carolina Jan. 10, once again had success at No. 2 singles. She lost the first set and won the second before dropping a close tiebreaker in the deciding third frame. Duke's Samantha Harris won the match, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-8).

Casey took the first set at No. 5 singles, but the Blue Devils' Alyssa Smith controlled the rest of the match en route to a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) victory.

Braschi and Casey played together at No. 2 doubles and held a 5-1 lead when the doubles point was decided. The duo, which ended last season on an eight-match winning streak, has now gone unfinished when leading 5-2 and 5-1 in Elon's first two matches.

Duke (1-0) took a 1-0 lead following doubles wins on court Nos. 1 and 3, and followed with three straight-set singles wins to clinch the match.
