Phoenix Concludes Indoor Regular Season at Penn State Tune-Up

Final Results

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Multiple school records and event wins capped the Elon University women's track and field team's indoor regular-season finale at the Penn State Tune-Up on Saturday, Feb. 20, inside the Ashenfelter Track facility.
 
Senior Sydney Griffin broke two school records as the Marietta, Ga., native set new school marks by just .01 in both the 60-meter hurdles and the 60-meter dash. She clocked an 8.48 in the 60-meter hurdles, breaking her previous school record for the third time this season while winning the race.
 
Griffin followed with a 7.75 performance in the 60-meters, setting the program's new indoor standard. She finished as the runner-up in the race while fellow senior Simone Jackson was fourth at her personal-best time of 7.88. Griffin also was first in the 200-meters with a time of 24.58, nearly tying her school-record in that event that was missed by just .01.
 
Jen Esposito also broke her school record for the second time in the 400-meter dash. The Mansfield, Mass., native clocked a 55.03 as she won the event title. Esposito also helped the 4x400-meter relay crew of Desiree Ross, Lauren Brzozowski and Lydia Laws break its indoor school mark in the race with their time of 3:46.52 winning the race. The Phoenix's "B" 4x400-meter team of Katie Arbogast, Emily Dixon, Simone Jackson and Samantha Brown raced a time 3:50.88 as the runner-up and good for third all-time in school history. 
 
In the shot put, Bryanna Hames also qualified for the ECACs after having a season-best toss of 13.55m in the event. She finished third overall with teammate Majayla Holland fourth at her throw of 13.47m. Briana O'Grady also had a season-best throw in the weight throw with her heave of 14.70m.
 
Tereza Novotna ran her season-best time in the one-mile run with a 4:53.90. That was good for eighth overall and qualified her in the ECACs in the event. Teammate Brigid Brennan also qualified for the ECACs after she finished 11th at her time of 4:56.88.
 
Carrie Abraham was Elon's top finisher in both the triple and long jumps. Abraham was sixth in the long jump with her leap of 44' 5.5" (13.55m) and was third overall in the triple jump at 38' 5.5" (11.72m).
 
Elon next heads to the 2016 ECAC Indoor Championships in Boston, Mass., on March 4-5.
