ELON, N.C. – The young Elon University men's tennis squad show perseverance rallying in doubles and used a strong start in singles to earn a 4-3 victory over Brown University on Friday, Feb. 26, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
 
"It was an important win for us," said head coach Michael Leonard. "Our young guys learned a lot today and our perseverance showed in a victory over a good Brown team. This win really taught our team how to win in tough situations."
 
Highlights
After trailing in doubles after Brown took the No. 2 doubles 6-0, Mario Paccini and Salvador Mijares rallied to take a 7-6 (7-5) victory at No. 1 doubles to tie up the point. Down 5-1 at No. 3 doubles, Petar Tomic and Chris Humphreys rallied to a 7-6 (8-6) victory to clinch doubles for Elon. The Phoenix held a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
 
Mijares claimed the first win in singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Garcia at No. 4 to extend Elon's lead 2-0, but Brown responded with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles to make it 2-1.
 
After a hard fought match at No. 6 singles when to Brown, senior Rob Lindgren gave the Phoenix a 3-2 lead with a 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 3, setting up Sarrasague with a chance to clinch the victory.
 
Sarrasague followed through with a 7-5, 6-4 win on court two to clinch the victory for Elon, extending the lead to 4-2 with one singles match to play. Charlie Sullivan fell in a three-set match 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, in the final match at No. 5 singles.

Elon returns to action on Sunday with a matchup against VCU at 1 p.m. The match is part of a men's and women's doubleheader at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
