ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women's tennis team earned a pair of shutouts against North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central to extend its winning streak to three matches today, March 5, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Elon began the day with a 7-0 victory over the Aggies and followed with a 4-0 defeat of the Eagles to improve to 5-8 on the season.
"Today was a good day for us," Elon head coach
Elizabeth Anderson said. "We really worked a lot on our strategies in singles and doubles to fine-tune some things. We're excited about preparing this week to get ready for a good Davidson team next weekend."

Maria Paraja and
Kamilla Beisenova each won singles matches against N.C. A&T and N.C. Central. Lucas clinched Elon's victory against the Aggies with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Angelica Martinez at No. 1 singles and took down Jasmine Gabriel 6-0, 6-2 in the match against N.C. Central.
Paraja extended her singles winning streak to three matches by taking a 6-0, 6-0 decision against N.C. A&T and a 6-0, 6-3 decision over N.C. Central.
Beisenova was the third Phoenix to earn a pair of singles wins on the day, as she defeated the Aggies' Nadia Hilton-Adams 7-5, 6-0 and the Eagles' Tamara Jeremic 6-0, 6-0.
Elon experimented with some different doubles lineups, as Paraja and
Natalia Janowicz earned their first two doubles victories as a pairing. The duo of Lucas and
Suzanne Zenoni earned a win against N.C. A&T while Beisenova and
Erica Braschi teamed up for the first time and won a 6-1 decision against N.C. Central.
PHOENIX HOSTS KIDS DAYCoach Anderson and the team hosted a free event for kids this afternoon between the two matches. Members of the community came out to interact with the team, play tennis and take part in other activities on the courts.
