ELON, N.C. – The Elon University baseball team will welcome back former players for an Alumni Weekend when the Phoenix takes on CAA foe James Madison March 31-April 2. Over the course of the weekend, the teams from 1985, 1987, 1989, 1997 and 2002 will be recognized, however, Alumni Weekend is open to all former Elon players from any era.
The 1985 squad posted the program's first 40-win season as head coach Rick Jones guided the maroon and gold to a 40-10 mark and an NAIA World Series appearance. Jones' 1987 team also reached the NAIA World Series and finished the season with a 37-13 record. The 1989 team once again advanced to the NAIA World Series under Jones, going 36-9 on the year. In 1997, current skipper
Mike Kennedy's first team went 34-16 and earned the program's lone NCAA Division II Regional berth. Kennedy's 2002 team became the first Elon program to collect an at-large berth to an NCAA Division I tournament as the Phoenix went 34-23 with three top-25 victories, including a win over top-ranked Clemson.
The full schedule of events will be announced as Alumni Weekend approaches, but a tentative schedule of some events is listed below.
Former players wishing to return for the weekend are asked to complete the online registration form that can be accessed at the link above.
