ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's tennis hits the stretch run of its 2017 regular season when it welcomes Coastal Carolina and Winthrop to the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center this weekend. First, the Phoenix will take on Coastal Carolina on Saturday, April 1, at 10 a.m. before going up against Winthrop on Sunday, April 2, at 2 p.m. Sunday's match against the Eagles is Senior Day for Elon.

SCHEDULE CHANGES
Saturday's match against CCU was pushed to April 1 from Friday, March 31, at 3 p.m. because of severe weather projected for the region. This weekend's weather forecast indicates sun and highs in the 70s both Saturday and Sunday.
SENIOR DAY
Before Sunday's match against Winthrop, Elon will honor its three seniors -
Chris Humphreys,
Neal Port and
Petar Tomic - for their contributions to the program over their careers in maroon and gold.Â

LAST TIME OUT
Taking on Hawaii during the team's global experience trip, Elon cruised to a 6-1 win over the Rainbow Warriors. The Phoenix opened the day with a pair of doubles wins at Nos. 2 and 3 to clinch the point before going on to take five of the six singles matches.Â

SERIES HISTORY
Against the two opponents, Elon is a combined 9-5 with a 5-0 record against Coastal Carolina and a 4-5 mark against Winthrop. Elon battled both teams on the road last season, earning a 6-1 win at Winthrop and a 5-2 victory against the Chanticleers.Â

SCOUTING COASTAL CAROLINA
On the season, Coastal Carolina owns a 9-7 record and has won five of its last six entering Saturday's contest. Wins during the run include victories over Delaware, East Carolina, North Carolina Central, James Madison and Creighton. Vuk Velickovic owns a 7-5 record at No. 1 singles this season. Francesco Migliano is on a four-match singles winning streak.

SCOUTING WINTHROP
The Eagles have struggled to a 4-10 record this season, but three of those wins have come in Big South play. Currently, the Eagles are on a streak with three wins in the last four matches against Radford, Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville. Last time out, the Eagles topped Radford 6-1 for a second straight win.

CAA Honors
Elon has earned a plethora of weekly CAA awards this season. Most recently, the Phoenix swept the awards with
Petar Tomic earning Player of the Week and
Salvador Mijares and
Neal Port taking Doubles Team of the Week on March 21. It was the second sweep of the awards for the Phoenix after
Felipe Sarrasague won Player of the Week and Tomic and
Chris Humphreys earned Doubles Team of the Week on Feb. 15. In the middle of the two sweeps, Sarrasague also earned Player of the Week on March 8 after a win over No. 64 Jack Findel-Hawkins of North Florida and Tomic and Humphreys won Doubles Team of the Week on Feb. 22.

HEAD COACH MICHAEL LEONARD
Winner of the 2016 CAA Coach of the Year award,
Michael Leonard is now in his 13th season as Elon's director of tennis and head men's tennis coach. Leonard is a five-time Southern Conference Coach of the Year and has led Elon to five conference championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances, the last coming in 2014. He has won 190 matches to date as the leader of the Phoenix.

NEXT TIME OUT
After the two matches this weekend, Elon will take a short drive over to Greensboro to battle UNCG on Wednesday, April 5. First serve against the Spartans is slated for 6 p.m. Â
