ELON, N.C. – Elon University sophomore quarterback
Davis Cheek will miss the remainder of the 2018 football campaign after suffering a season-ending injury in Elon's game Saturday, Oct. 13, at Delaware.
Â
Cheek suffered a knee injury during the first quarter of last week's game that requires surgery. He will undergo the procedure at a later date.
Â
Cheek has started each of Elon's 18 games since he joined the program in 2017. The Matthews, N.C., native had a strong start to the 2018 campaign in completing 79-of-120 passes for 1,018 yards and four touchdowns. Though intercepted twice in the opener against USF, Cheek had not turned the ball over in each of his last five games and completed 65.8 percent of his passes for the season.
Â
Ahead of the 2018 campaign, Cheek was named to the watch list for the CFPA FCS National Player of the Year Trophy. The 2017 CAA Football Offensive Rookie of the Year completed 58.8 percent of his passes a season ago, throwing for 2,431 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for two more.
