RICHMOND, Va. – Elon redshirt freshman defensive back
Codey Larkins and freshman running back
Kamerin McDowell-Moore earned CAA Football weekly honors Monday. Larkins was named the CAA Special Teams Player of the Week, while McDowell-Moore earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors.
Larkins made a pair of pivotal plays on special teams in the first half of Elon's 38-0 road win over Davidson on Saturday night. He recovered a muffed punt on the Wildcats' opening possession before blocking and recovering a punt at the Davidson 7-yard line later in the half. The two plays led directly to 10 Elon points.
Larkins' second-quarter blocked punt was the first by an Elon player since
Brennan Davis blocked a Campbell punt on Nov. 2, 2024.
McDowell-Moore followed an impressive Week 0 performance with a career day against the Wildcats. The Tarboro native rushed for a career-high 88 yards on 14 carries and scored two touchdowns. With the performance, McDowell-Moore became the first Elon true freshman to record two rushing touchdowns in a game since Malcolm Summers scored twice against William & Mary in 2015.
McDowell-Moore also made an impact on special teams, forcing a fumble on a Davidson kickoff return.
Larkins, McDowell-Moore and the Phoenix return to action Saturday when Elon travels to face No. 6/8 Rhode Island. Kickoff from Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, is scheduled for noon.
