OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -  Elon University senior forward Tyler Seibring has been named one of the 30 NCAA Division I men's basketball candidates for the 2018-18 Senior CLASS Award® on Friday, Nov. 30. These men's basketball student-athletes excel both on and off the court.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. 

Seibring carries a 3.91 grade-point average as a double major in English and Economics. The two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and two-time All-CAA Second Team selection was named the Colonial Athletic Association's 2017-18 Dean Ehler's Leadership Award winner as a junior. He is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies at Elon and completed an Undergraduate Research Project titled "An Analysis of Prominent Native American Author Sherman Alexie and how his Parents Shaped his Writing".
 
His leadership has been shown on and off the court as a two-time captain. He was also a member of the inaugural class of the Phoenix Leadership Academy, has been on the President's Student Leadership Advisory Council for the last two years, and has been a SAAC member since 2016. Seibring has been heavily involved in the Elon community, including taking part in the "It Takes a Village" Project for three straight years, working with the Writing Center as a Writing Consultant, is helping fellow student-athletes as an Elon University Academic Support for Athletics Academic Mentor and has participated in CHAMPS Clinics.

Through seven games this season, Seibring is averaging a team-high 14.7 points, which ranks 10th in the CAA, and 4.7 rebounds. He is shooting efficiently from the floor at a 48.1 percent clip and is making 42.9 percent of his shots from three-point range. Additionally, he leads the team with 18 made threes, which is ranked 5th in the CAA.

The men's candidates will be narrowed to a field of 10 finalists in February, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character and competition.
