Elon Lacrosse Appoints Olsen to Coaching Staff

10/15/2019 5:01:00 PM

Elon, N.C.- Elon University lacrosse head coach Josh Hexter announced Renee Olsen as a new addition to his coaching staff. Olsen comes to the Phoenix after a four-year stint at Colby College.

"Renee has been a crucial addition to our program," said Hexter. "Her background speaks for itself with four-straight national championship game appearances as a student-athlete as well as coaching under one of the greatest coaches in the country, Karen Henning at Colby College. She has a great understanding of the game as well as what it takes to build a championship team culture and sustain it. We are so happy to have Renee on staff with us."

Olsen previously served as an assistant coach on the Mules' coaching staff. After working with the team's offense in her first season (2016), she was named the defensive coach from 2017-19. In her tenure at Colby, she coached three All-Americans, four All-Pilgrim Region selections, and four All-NESCAC honorees. Olsen also trained one NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year.

As a player, Olsen had a four-year career at Trinity College. During her time with the Bantams, she helped Trinity to four consecutive NCAA Division III Championship appearances and one national title during her freshman season. She finished her career with 52 goals and 15 assists.

A 2015 graduate, Olsen earned her Bachelor's in Economics. She is currently pursuing her Masters of Sports Leadership at VCU.

"I am so grateful to have the opportunity to join the Elon community and the women's lacrosse program," said Olsen. "Thank you so much to Josh Hexter and Beth Roberts for giving me the opportunity to work alongside them. I am so excited for this new chapter. Go Phoenix!"

Olsen is the fifth assistant coach in program history. She replaces Katrina Geiger, who departed after accepting a coaching position at Georgetown.

"We are really excited to bring Renee Olsen into our Elon lacrosse family," said Roberts. "Renee has a ton of knowledge in our game. It is going to help our defense achieve greatness this year. We are looking forward to an amazing 2019-2020 season!"
