Elon Prepares For Road Trip To Campbell

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 17, when it travels to Buies Creek, N.C. for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with Campbell.

COVERAGE
• Elon's contest against Campbell will be streamed live on ESPN+.
• Listen to the Elon IMG Sports Network coverage on Phoenix All-Access or on the TuneIn app. Taylor Durham and Brian Morris will have the call from Gore Arena, with the pregame show beginning at 6:30 p.m.

THE MATCHUP
• This marks the 36th time in program history that Elon and Campbell will meet in a regular season contest, and the first time since 2000-01.
• In the most recent meeting, Elon defeated Campbell 74-57 on Nov. 30, 2000.
 
ABOUT ELON
• So far this season, Elon is off to a 4-7 start, with all four wins on the year coming at Schar Center.
• The Phoenix is led by senior guard Marcus Sheffield who is posting 15.9 points per game to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists per contest.
• Rookies Hunter McIntosh and Hunter Woods are combining to average 20.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per outing.
• Simon Wright leads the team in rebounding at 5.5 per game, adding 7.4 points per game as well.
• Elon is led by first year head coach Mike Schrage, who spent two seasons as an assistant at Ohio State before becoming Elon's head coach.
• Freshman Guard Hunter McIntosh garnered CAA Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced on Dec. 16. McIntosh was selected by the conference after scoring a team-high 15 points, while adding three assists, two rebounds and two steals in Elon's dominant 91-60 win over North Carolina Wesleyan. McIntosh was on fire all game, going 5-of-5 from downtown in a contest that saw Elon tie a Division I program record with 19 made threes.
• Freshman forward Hunter Woods was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Dec. 9. Woods earned the honor after averaging 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in games against Kennesaw State and High Point.
• The Phoenix have no seniors on the roster with the exception of graduate transfer Marcus Sheffield, who earned a Preseason All-CAA honorable mention.
• Additionally, the Phoenix made six new additions to the squad for 2019-20 in first-year players Hunter McIntosh, Hunter Woods, Zac Ervin and Ben Daugherty, while also adding two transfers in Marcus Sheffield (Stanford) and Jerald Gillens-Butler (Butler).
 
SCOUTING CAMPBELL
• Campbell is a Division I institution out of Buies Creek, N.C. that competes in the Big South Conference.
• The Fighting Camels are off to a 6-3 start this season, but fell to East Carolina 79-67 in their most recent outing.
• Campbell is in its seventh season under head coach Kevin McGeehan, who has led the program to three consecutive post-season tournaments.
• The Fighting Camels are led by Cedric Henderson Jr., who leads the team in scoring with 11.9 points per game.
  
LAST TIME OUT
• In its most recent outing, Elon dominated North Carolina Wesleyan, 91-60, behind a program record-tying 19 made threes.
• The Phoenix was led by freshman guard Hunter McIntosh who dropped 15 points, three assists and two rebounds on the evening. Elon also got major contributions from freshman forward Hunter Woods, who posted 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the win.

UP NEXT
Following that game, will hit the road for back-to-back outings, starting with a trip to Campbell on Dec. 17. The Phoenix will take on the Camels at 7 p.m. in Buies Creek, N.C.
