Box Score ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball fell to High Point, 70-66, in an overtime battle on Thursday, Dec. 5.

The Phoenix was led by freshman forward
Hunter Woods who dropped 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists on the evening. Elon also got major contributions from freshman forward
Zac Ervin, who scored a career-high 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting.

High Point was led by guard John-Michael Wright, who recorded 20 points and five rebounds in the contest.

HIGHLIGHTS
Elon jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead after Marcus Sheffield and
Simon Wright both knocked down three's in the opening moments of the game. The Phoenix's lead quickly jumped to 14-5 after
Hunter Woods and
Hunter McIntosh both drilled mid-range jumpers just over six minutes into the contest.

Elon entered the half trailing 26-24.

The Phoenix came out of the gates firing in the second half after a
Hunter Woods three sparked a 7-0 run that put Elon on top 31-26. Trailing 34-33 with 13:33 left in regulation,
Kris Wooten and
Zac Ervin knocked down back-to-back threes that gave the Phoenix a 39-34 lead.

With Elon leading 39-37,
Zac Ervin caught fire, completely taking over the game over the next two minutes. His triple with 11:04 remaining in the second half ignited a 12-3 Phoenix run that culminated in a steal and fast-break three for the freshman. Elon took a 51-40 lead with just under nine minutes to play.

The Panthers fought back into the game over the final eight minutes, eventually hitting a game-tying three with under five seconds to play in regulation. Tied at 58, Elon and High Point headed to overtime.

High Point squeezed out a close win, 70-66.
