Elon Set to Open CAA Action at Home Against Drexel, Hofstra

ELON, N.C. – Set for the start of Colonial Athletic Association play, Elon University women's lacrosse will welcome Drexel and Hofstra to Rudd Field this weekend with both games set to air on Phoenix All-Access. First on Friday night, April 5, Elon will host the Dragons in a 6 p.m. contest. On Sunday afternoon, April 7, the Phoenix will take on the Pride at 1 p.m. 

THE GAMES ARE...
-...the 96th and 97th games in program history
-...the program's 44th and 45th home games in program history
-...Elon's third time each hosting Drexel and Hofstra in program history
-...Josh Hexter's 211th and 212th games as a college head coach and 96th 97th at Elon

A WIN FRIDAY WOULD...
-...be the 46th win in program history
-...be the 118th win for head coach Josh Hexter in his career
-...be Elon's fourth win over Drexel in program history
-...be Elon's fourth-straight win over Drexel
-...be Elon's 13th CAA victory in program history

SCOUTING DREXEL
-Led by first-year head coach Jill Batcheller, Drexel is 5-5 through 10 games this season and has won three of its last four entering play Friday. 
-Though falling last time out to Robert Morris, the Dragons won three in a row against Manhattan, UMBC and Central Connecticut State, which included a 22-goal outburst against CCS.
-Colleen Grady leads the Dragons with 21 goals and 12 assists for 33 points. Karson Harris is second on the team with 20 goals and 11 assists for 31 points. In the cage, Zoe Bennett has started all 10 games and has a .492 save percentage.

SCOUTING HOFSTRA
-Hofstra owns a 7-4 record on the season thus far and has won three of its last four entering the weekend.
-Alyssa Parrella leads the CAA with 52 goals through 11 games. That number ranks as the third-most in the nation. She also has 11 assists for 63 points, which is the seventh-most nationally.
-Alexa Mattera is second on the team with 26 goals and Katie Whelan comes in at third with 23 tallies. No other Pride player has more than eight goals on the year. 

THE SERIES vs. DREXEL
-Elon leads the all-time series against Drexel 3-1 and has won each of the last three meetings between the two teams. 
-Last time the Dragons visited Rudd Field, Rachel Ramirez stood tall in goal in allowing just two goals to help the Phoenix to a 15-2 victory. The two goals allowed still stands as the program record for fewest allowed in a game.
-A year ago, Elon scored a season-high 18 goals in a road win over the Dragons.

THE SERIES vs. HOFSTRA
-Elon leads the series against the Pride 3-1 and has won each of the previous three games since falling in the first-ever meeting by the score of 10-9 at Rudd Field.
-Last season, Elon took a 12-8 victory on the road against the Pride in the CAA opener for both teams.

LAST TIME OUT
-On the road against the 23rd-ranked High Point Panthers, HPU went on a run late in the first half and while the Phoenix made a second-half comeback attempt, the Panthers took a 16-12 victory at Vert Stadium.
-Kaley Thompson scored a behind-the-back goal. It went on to be named the No. 1 play on SportsCenter's Top 10 that night and the following morning.
-Mae McGlynn matched her career high with five goals. It marked the third five-goal game of the season for the sophomore. 

PRESEASON ALL-CAA LISTS
-Elon was picked third in the CAA for the third consecutive season. The Phoenix has reached the CAA Tournament as the No. 3 seed in each of the last three seasons and has battled second-seeded Towson on all three occasions in the semifinals.
-Quinn Daly was picked as a Preseason All-CAA honorable mention in 2019 after earning CAA All-Rookie accolades after her first season in 2018.

CAA WEEKLY HONORS
-Mae McGlynn was named the CAA Player of the Week on Feb. 11 after her five-goal performance against Campbell in the season opener.
-Bella Feldman was tabbed CAA Rookie of the Week on Feb. 11 after scoring four goals at Campbell in her collegiate debut.
-Kaley Thompson picked up CAA Rookie of the Week on Feb. 26 after a week with four goals, five assists and 13 draw controls in Elon's two games. Against Winthrop, Thompson finished with four goals, four assists and eight draw controls. 

ELON ON LAX SPORTS NETWORK
-This season, Elon will be features on Lax Sports Network twice in April during CAA play.
-First, the Phoenix will meet Towson on Friday, April 12, at 7 p.m. at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
-Elon's second appearance on LSN will come Friday, April 19, when it meets defending national champion James Madison at 5 p.m.
-The 2019 CAA Championships in Harrisonburg, Va., will also air on LSN.

UP NEXT
-Continuing with CAA play, Elon will visit Towson on Friday, April 12, for a 7 p.m. game on Lax Sports Network before coming home to take on Delaware on Sunday, April 14, at 12 p.m. on Phoenix All-Access.
