ELON, N.C. - Elon University head women's tennis coach
Elizabeth Anderson announced the addition of USC Upstate transfer Victoria Saldh (Gothenburg, Sweden) for the upcoming 2019-20 season on Tuesday, June 11.
"We are very excited to have Victoria join our team in the fall," said Anderson. "She gained valuable experience this past year at USC Upstate playing at the top of the lineup for them. Victoria is a very hard worker and a strong competitor, and we are very confident that she will be very successful in the classroom and on the court. We are looking forward to see all three of our newcomers, Victoria, Kiana and Shauna, arrive on campus in August."
Saldh joins the Phoenix as a transfer from USC Upstate after spending her first collegiate season with the Spartans. The 2019 Second Team All-Big South Singles selection posted an 11-9 singles record and an 11-6 mark in doubles as a freshman last season for USC Upstate. In singles play, she played primarily at the No. 1 position. Additionally, she had an impressive 10-2 record in doubles action pairing with Elin Hellberg on court two. For her performance on the court during the season, she was named the team's most valuable player.
Before playing collegiately, Saldh ranked in the top-10 for her age group nationally in Sweden from 2015 until 2018 while competing at the junior ranks. The Gothenburg, Sweden native ranked as high as No. 5 nationally in Sweden when she was 17 and 18 years old. Saldh also won the U21 nationals in doubles in 2018 and claimed U18 regional titles for both singles and doubles during both the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
