TEMPE, Ariz. – Elon University men's tennis player
Kyle Frankel has been named a 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete, announced on July 18.
Â
On the court, the sophomore from Oranjestad, Aruba set a single-season program record as he amassed 21 dual match singles victories. He posted a team-best 21-4 record in singles and had a 12-6 record in doubles action, playing primarily at the No. 4 singles spot and the No. 2 doubles position. He also recorded a 14-match win streak in singles play and finished the year winning 16 of his last 18 singles matches. At the 2019 CAA Championships, Frankel won a critical match on court three against UNCW's Bruno Caula by a score of 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). The effort helped set up
Camilo Ponce's match-clinching victory on court five as the Phoenix secured its first CAA title with a 4-3 come-from-behind win. His play earned him the league's Most Outstanding Performer Award at the Championship.
Â
