ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 25, against Presbyterian and Mount Olive. Those matchups are slated to take place at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in Elon, N.C. at 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. respectively.
THE SERIES
- Saturday marks the fourth time that Elon and Presbyterian will meet in a regular season matchup, with Elon currently leading the all-time series 2-1.
- In the most recent meeting, the Phoenix defeated the Blue Hose, 7-0, on March 12, 2010
- In the second half of Wednesday's double-header, Elon will take on Mount Olive for the second time in program history.
- In its one prior matchup with the Blue Hose, the Phoenix secured a 7-0 victory
ABOUT ELON
- The Phoenix is off to an 2-3 start to the season, after defeating Belmont Abbey, 7-0, in its most recent outing.
- Elon was led by
Nicole Shiau, who combined with
Shauna Galvin to earn a doubles win (6-0) over Sophia Boatright and Alexandria Smith. In singles play, Shiau defeated Erica Dorn in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) to secure the victory.
- Elon returned five players from a 2018-19 team that posted a 13-12 dual match record and finished its season falling to top seeded William & Mary 4-3 in the semifinals of the CAA Tournament at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
- The Phoenix is returning 2019 CAA Second-Team Singles selection
Olivia Archer as well as 2019 CAA Second-Team Doubles selections
Alex Koniaev,
Nicole Shiau and
Uma Nayar. In 2019, Archer went 17-4 in singles, while Koniaev combined with
Maria Paraja to go 9-8 in No. 1 doubles and Nayar/Shiau finished 11-4 in No. 2 doubles.
- The Phoenix is led by head coach
Elizabeth Anderson, who begins her 16th season at the helm for Elon. Anderson currently holds 213 career victories.
SCOUTING PRESBYTERIAN
- Presbyterian is in its first season under head coach Joel Roberts, who coached at Wingate prior to becoming the head coach of the Blue Hose
- Presbyterian is off to an 0-3 start to this season after falling to Charlotte, 5-0.
- The Blue Hose two additional losses came against a pair of ACC foes, as Clemson downed PC, 7-0, and Georgia Tech defeated Presbyterian, 4-0.
SCOUTING MOUNT OLIVE
- Mount Olive is in the midst of its tenth season under head coach Kevin Coghill, who led the team to a Conference Championship berth last season
- The program is off to a 1-0 start this season after defeating Catawba, 4-3, in its most recent outing.
- Mount Olive boasts a roster with just three upperclassmen (all seniors), and seven underclassmen (three sophomores & four freshmen).

Following this week's double-header against Presbyterian and Mount Olive, the Phoenix will return to action on Friday, Feb. 7, to take on Garnder-Webb. That matchup is slated to begin at 2 p.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
